Wonderful Wednesday -Start With a Good Attitude

Wonderful Wednesday - it is wonderful to start the day with a good attitude.

Each Wonderful Wednesday throughout the month of October the articles here will focus on starting the day in a way to make success more likely. Last week this space was devoted to prayer. In the weeks ahead there will be articles about starting the day with :

positive affirmation
looking at the end
planning to be happy

This week the article is all about starting the day with a good attitude.

There are all kinds of cliched expressions about attitude. One of my favorites is "your attitude determines your altitude." I am a big believer in the idea that  you can talk yourself into a better day by having a better attitude. People often ask me how I came up with the daily descriptions for my blog entries. It was all about psyching myself into having a better attitude. I believed then and believe now that even when my day is going nothing like I want it to go, I can trick it into being better with the sheer force of my attitude. So, even if my day is hard and the schedule looks like it is going to keep going that way, I do what I do. I put on my big girl panties and my fake it until I make it and depending on the day of the week I decide it is going to be a:

Magnificent Monday
Terrific Tuesday
Wonderful Wednesday
Thrilling Thursday
Fantastic Friday
Sensational Saturday or a
Serene Sunday

Let me show you how this worked this week. On this Magnificent Monday morning, life was not going as I would have liked. I got up late, my son could not find his socks, the twins lost their sneakers and library books, the teenie bopper had a bad attitude and my husband was still out of town on a business trip. I had leftover laundry from the weekend and a few blog articles I needed to write. If I was a different woman, I would have crawled back into bed and thought about trying it again another day. But I am, a superwoman, aka a wife and a mama, so I did what we superwomen do. You know the next sentence. I put on my big girl panties and my fake it until I make it dress and decided, "Hey it is Magnificent Monday. I am going to find something magnificent to be happy about daggonit!"

When I got the Magnificent Monday attitude, I realized that life was pretty good in the Bryn Mawr hood. Check out what I discovered when I decided to seek out the magnificent:

1.    my son's ankle was sprained, not broken
2.     my son could wear two different black socks because he had a special boot from the doctor on one foot
2.    the twins had two pairs of the same sneakers
3.    the teenie bopper always has a bad attitude, so this was not news
4.    my husband was on a business trip making money, not gone for good
5.     the twins would be gone from 8:40 am until 12:00 pm so I would put off the housework and blogging work until they got home and have two cups of coffee while I read a book

So, once I sucked down the bad attitude that was trying to sneak its way in, put on the proper attitude clothes (see above) and started telling myself it was Magnificent Monday until I believed it. It worked, I made myself have a good day.

Starting your day with a good attitude is the difference between your day being a horrible thing you wish you never got out of bed for and being magnificent. So, the question for you this wonderful Wednesday is what do you do to get a good attitude when the day seems shot?
