Want to Have Fun – Create A Family Game
You can find serenity in learning that it can be really fun to create a family game. In most areas around the country, the new school year has either started or is about to start. At the same time, many families enjoyed the closeness and fun of the bonding and fun of summer vacation. One way to keep the fun going throughout the school year is to create a family game.
The great thing about a family game is that you do not have to create something with mass appeal. The only people who need to like the game are your family members. It also doesn’t have to be fancy. The game doesn’t even have to be creative or innovative. For example, if your family likes Monopoly. Get out your Monopoly board and some small post it pads. Change the names of the squares to names of places in your neighborhood, places your family has gone on vacation or things you want to do. Do that changes by writing the new names on post it paper and sticking it on the original board. This way when your family plays the game you are playing with memories and dream. The game becomes real, personal and a place to relive or create some great memories. More »

Want to Stop Procrastination- Push Yourself
It is terrific to know that you can stop procrastination when you learn to push yourself. Procrastination is that thing that makes you put off doing things. Procrastination is that thing that makes you say, “I will do it tomorrow or the day after.” Procrastination kills process and productivity. In order to succeed, you must learn a way to push yourself to succeed. People who win the battle against procrastination and are leaders learn to push themselves to succeed. More »
Take Action Now – Look at Time and Place
It is magnificent to take action now while recognizing opportunity has a time and place. The idea behind take action now is that one starts doing something right now to accomplish a mission rather than waiting for some unknown date in the future. When you take action now, you seize the day and to put it simple, just do what you are supposed to do. It is important to take action now when action is required. There is a time and a place for everything and when action is not taken at the right time, there is a cost to be paid. More »

The Ferguson Shooting and My Son
The Ferguson shooting and so many incidents like it scare me. I am the mother of four children. Three girls and one son. I call my son, “my son, my son, my golden one.” He has beautiful hopes and dreams for the future. When Barak Obama was first elected president my son said when he grew up, he would be president and Obama could be his vice president. In the years since his plans and life have remained lofty and good. My son is tall for his age. He is tall, intelligent, talkative and has a strong sense of right and wrong. He argues passionately to prove his points and to have his voice heard. In most contexts, these would all be wonderful things. But, this is 2014 in America and my son is a little black boy.
There are stories on the news almost every day about black on black crime. While those stories are scary, I don’t worry about them much. My son is a good boy. He is in school, does not commit crimes, and by all accounts has a bright and shining future. There are also stories on the news almost every day about black men and black boys who are shot and killed for doing nothing other than being black men and boys. These are the stories that terrify me.

At Work and Home – Reputation Matters
It is fantastic to realize when it comes to your life at work and home, reputation matters. Reputation is what people think of you, how people refer to you when you are not around. It is common for people to take care to be sure they have a good reputation at work. Often, little attention is paid to the reputation one has at home. This is a mistake. No matter if at home or at work, reputation matters a great deal. More »

The Family that Works Together Stays Together
You can find serenity in having your children join the family business. This blog is called Janeane’s World. It was originally created as a way of helping my friends and I to have a good day every day. As time went on the blog posts became articles. The design of the blog articles grew and the mission of the blog grew to be a place to showcase the thoughts, dreams and ideas of the modern woman dealing with family, work and life. While I have never been a traditional mommy blogger, I have always been proud to be a wife and mother who blogs.
My children have always suggested article topics, sponsored posts to accept and design themes for the blog. A few months ago, my son Peyton joined the team at Janeane’s World and started giving all kinds of suggestions for improving engagement and helping readers. In exchange for his assistance, he earns 10% of whatever is earned here. His younger sisters not to be outdone, decided they wanted to join the team as well. My daughter Zahirah is now a photographer for Janeane’s World. Her twin Camille, joined the team as our official Cuteness Ambassador. Currently, the twins are satisfied with a salary of $1.00 per month. Last but not least, my eldest daughter Euphoria who blogs at Black Girl Brown Sugar agreed to consult and guest post from time to time. She has not asked for a salary. Perhaps the tuition we will be paying for the next four years to Spelman College caused her to show us mercy in the salary department. More »

Opportunity is Golden Ticket
It is fantastic to find the opportunity that inspires you, the Golden Ticket that helps you take on the world and win. No matter who you are or what you do, one Golden Ticket is opportunity. Most people have heard the expression, “Opportunity only knocks once.” As nice as that expression is, the golden ticket may come in realizing that sometimes you have to go find the opportunity you want.
In order to succeed, to get things done, people need a chance to play the game. That chance is opportunity. Opportunity does not guarantee you will succeed. Opportunity does give you a chance to try, it puts you in the game. What you do with the opportunity is up to you. Opportunity is the Golden Ticket. Like with any ticket, you can use it to get into the show or you can sit on the ticket and let others watch the show. After all, whether you use the ticket or not, the show will go on. Opportunity works the same way, whether you take advantage of it or not, life moves on. Continue reading Opportunity is a Golden Ticket
