Bible in 90 Days Day 21

Bible in 90 Days Day 21 Using the SOAP Method

Scripture

I Samuel 16 to I Samuel 28: 1-19

Observations

16 Jehovah asked Samuel how long he would morn for Saul since Saul was rejected by God as king over Israel. Samuel annointed David and David pleases Saul with his playing of the harp

17 Goliath of the Philistines, calls the Israelites to send out a man to battle him. David defeated Goliath with a sling shot

18 Saul became jealous of David’s accomplishments and favor amongst the people. Saul tries to set David up for destruction and is unsuccessful because God was with David. Saul was afraid of David and hated him.

19 Saul wanted to kill David and tries to get his son, David’s best friend to help. Saul had a bad spirit against David, that God gave Saul, similar to the way God hardened Pharaoh’s heart against the Israelites. But again, David escaped Saul’s plan to kill him.

20 David asks Jonathan why Saul, Jonathan’s father hates him? Jonathan reaffirms his friendship with Davis and says he will warn David of upcoming danger.

21 David is afraid of Saul and is on the run

22 Saul continues to try to destroy David

23 David went to battle against the Philistines and was successful

24 David has an opportunity to destroy Saul but does not. Instead he begs Saul for favor and obtains it, after which David promises Saul, Davis will not destroy Saul’s bloodline.

25 David developed feelings for Abigail, the wife of Nabal. When Nabal died, David made Abigail his wife

26 Saul again wants to kill David and is persuaded not to do so

27 David fears that Saul will kill him and as such, he should get away from Saul

28 Saul is told that God will deliver the Israelites into the hands of the Philistines tomorrow

Application

One thing that struck me in this group of passages was the statement that Saul had a bad spirit in his heart against David because it was put there by God. It reminded me of how God hardened Pharaoh’s heart against the Israelites. These passages remind me that God has his own reasons for doing things and his ways are complicated. God can make rocks cry out his prays so of course he can use other people to carry out his plans

Prayer

Heavenly Father, please help me to accept your will and to understand that all things work together for God for those are in your will. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
