Bible in 90 Days Day 36

Bible in 90 Days Day 36 Using the SOAP Method

Scripture

Nehemiah 1 to Nehemiah 13: 1 - 14

Observations

1 Nehemiah, a servant of the king, inquired about which Jews escaped captivity and which remained. Nehemiah prayed for God to help the Jews.

2 Nehemiah went to the king and asked permission to go to build in the city of his forefathers and requested the king give him permission to get building materials from the kings properties.

3 At Jerusalem, people built and repaired the house of God.

4 Some people became upset when the learned of the Jews building the house of God. Nehemiah again prayed to God for protection and recounted the times God had protected the people in the past.

5 People and their wives began to cry against the Jews and what they were doing. Nehemiah was upset that the Jews were in bondage and not redeemed by their brethern.

6 When Nehemiah had completed the wall, several of his enemies wanted to meet with him in order to harm him. Nehemiah’s enemies knew that the work he was doing was the work of God.

7 Nehemiah made his brother ruler over Jerusalem. There is a listing of those held in captivity.

8 The people gathered and talked to Ezra who gave them the words of Moses and the people made booths and kept the feast seven days and the eighth day was a somber assembly according to the manner of things.

9 The Israselites had a time of fasting and praying and confessing of sin. The people sing the praises of God for how he brought the Israelites out of Egypt.

10 A census and history of the people detailing their obligations

11 The rules at Jerusalem cast lots to determine who would live in Jerusalem and who would live in the surrounding cities

12 History and genealogy of the people who were engaged to build the walls

13 The people read the book of Moses. Nehemiah reminded the people to keep their obligations to God regarding the sabbath and marrying appropriately

Application

The part of these passages that struck me most was how Nehemiah kept going back and reading the books of Moses. It affirms for me that we need to read the scriptures regularly, constantly, and search them for understanding. Over the course of the last 30 plus days I have been reading the Bible everyday, sometimes more than once per day and one of the constant and main points that has come from my reading is that we need to read more. We need to search the scriptures and seek God’s face in his words. Our God is an awesome God and we need to follow his words, rules and regulations.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I thank You for giving me Your word to read and study and learn. I thank You for allowing me to learn about You. In my learning I have learned that You are quick to forgive and awesome in your ability to forgive. I thank You Lord for Your kindness, mercy and generosity. I pray that you help me to be the kind of wife and mother that is pleasing in Your sight and a proper example to my family. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
